Merry, Pippin, and Sam lead a revolt to reclaim the Shire, and they learn that the cause of this devastation is Saruman. Frodo wins their skirmish, but when the time comes to throw the Ring in, evil takes over and he turns away. When they arrive, they find that the country is not the green and peaceful land they remember. The Orcs and Trolls also never get into the city in the book. Instead of using it for power, he agrees to take it to Mordor so he can destroy it.

Beregond is fighting off the servants of Denethor and has already killed two of them. Butterbur is put at ease and finally understands when they tell him that things will soon improve because Strider is the new king and will come north to stabilize the region. Pippin steps into service of the Steward of Gondor, Denethor, while Merry becomes a soldier in the army of King Theoden. The blow is so powerful it breaks her arm. Bilbo will remain with the Elves and the rest of the Hobbits go on leaving Elrond at his home.

After the others have left, Aragorn explains to Legolas and Gimli what happened. In the book, Gollum inadvertently destroys the One Ring when he loses his footing and falls into the Cracks of Doom after finally reclaiming his "precious" from Frodo. Just as the Hobbit actors' first scene was hiding from a Ringwraith under a tree, their last scene was the bluescreened reaction shot of the inhabitants of Minas Tirith bowing to them. Bilbo will remain with the Elves and the rest of the Hobbits go on leaving Elrond at his home. They follow him out of the Paths. The Return of the King book hides in the Tower with Faramir who is dying. On this day of battle, Sam and Frodo escape from the tower, disguised as orcs. Frodo wins their skirmish, but when the time comes to throw the Ring in, evil takes over and he turns away.

New structures included the 8m tall Gate, with broken and unbroken versions, with a working opening and closing mechanism, with its engravings inspired by the Baptistry of San Giovanni.

The book has him and therefore the reader unaware of who she is until the point of her revealing her identity to the Witch-king of Angmar. After a while, Frodo yearns to return home to the Shire. Whenever Frodo begins to feel the responsibility of the Ring, Sam helps him to carry on.

Instead, Aragorn fights a losing battle with a large troll chieftain until the Ring's destruction ends the battle. Frodo and Gollum struggle while Gollum accuses Frodo of breaking his word. Gondor is triumphant. They all eat till they are full at the feast in celebration.

When the Hobbits arrive back at the bridge of Brandywine they find a spiked gate, closed.

Movie vs. Book: The Return of the King

Denethor assumes the black ships carry enemies, and he falls into despair — in fact, they carry friends. By the time of this second escape, the commanders have debated "The Last Debate" and the Battle of Dale has been fought.

Slowly and painfully Frodo keeps going. Aragorn tells Gimli, Legolas, and Merry that they must go to Minas Tirith but, for an unknown reason, they must travel a darker route. Pippin spends The Return of the King book time with another Guard and they discuss the coming battle.

He tries to make them believe they will be cursed if they harm him, but Frodo calls him a liar and says he has no power.

When Sam returns to the Shire, he isn't shown to live in Bag End where he dwells with Rose in the bookbut in a different Hobbit-hole of his own. Jackson also has another unofficial cameo, as Sam's hand stepping into view when he confronts Shelob.

Aragorn has still not arrived at his destination, crossing Ringlo and reaching points in Linhir and then Lebennin. Jackson eventually realized it ignored the point of Aragorn's true bravery in distracting Sauron's army against overwhelming odds, and a computer generated Troll was placed over footage of Sauron in the finished film.

When the Orcs begin to move to the crossroads so they can go against Aragorn, Sam and Frodo slip behind a boulder and leave them. Aragorn arrives from the south with reinforcements and the armies of Mordor are repelled. The Return of the King By J.
